Troy University Athletics – New Orleans Bowl Win VS North Texas

Troy University Athletics/strong> football program defeated the University of North Texas Mean Green 50-30 in the New Orleans Bowl. This was a high scoring game with both teams combining for 80 total points. Troy University Trojans came out on top 50-30 in this offensive fueled college football game.

These two Football Championship Subdivision teams scored in every quarter. Troy University was actually only leading 22-20 at halftime. They outscored the mean green from University of North Texas 28-10 in the second half.

Troy University finishes their 2017 season with an 11-2 record. Meanwhile University of North Texas football team fell to 9-5 on the year. Turnovers played, pun intended, a crucial role in this game.

Troy University only had one turnover, throwing an interception. However, University of North Texas comitted five turnovers. They threw two interceptions and lost three fumbles.

Troy University Athletics football team outgained the University of North Texas 435 yards to 295 yards. Believe it or not North Texas University could not rush the football for positive yardage. They lost 8 yards on 25 total rushing attempts.

Their quarterback Mason Fine threw for 305 yards with 3 touchdowns to no avail. Historically, Troy University has defeated North Texas University 9 times with only 2 losses. These two college football teams played in the same Sun Belt Conference until University of North Texa left for Conference USA.

Coincidentally, Troy University quarterback Brandon Silvers also threw for 305 yards with 4 touchdowns. Troy University outgained University of North Texas 130 yards to minus 8 yards rushing. North Texas University never abandoned their woeful running game, with 25 total rushing attempts.

This New Orleans Bowl game was played at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. I did not get a chance to watch any of this college football game. Normally, I only write sports recaps pertaining to athletic events I actually watch. However, I have decided to write recaps for all the bowl games this 2017 college football season.
